What is the difference between Young Adult and Adult?

Modified on Wed, 08 Feb 2023 at 08:59 AM

The main difference between adult and young adult (YA) books is the target audience. YA books are intended for readers aged 14 and up, whereas Adult books are usually intended for readers 18 and up - although we firmly believe that you are never too old to read either category!

Some of the main differences between the two categories are the age of the protagonists, the sexual content, the author's writing style and the themes of the story.

Young adults can still read adult fiction, of course, and adults can (and do!) read YA too! It's all about finding what you enjoy reading.
